About ViralBall

ViralBall explains American sports in plain English. We cover the four major leagues: the NBA, the NFL, Major League Baseball and the NHL.

The site is for people who want to understand the game in front of them. That includes new fans, casual fans, and readers outside the United States who are meeting these sports for the first time.

What we publish

  • Explainers. One rule, one tradition or one odd fact at a time, such as what icing is or why the hoop is 10 feet high.
  • Guides. Longer pieces that teach the basics of a sport or a format, such as football in 10 minutes.
  • Rankings. Records and title counts, checked against the record books and updated when they change.
  • Viral moments. The plays people are still sharing, with the story and the rules behind them.

How we work

We write for readers, not for experts. Every article should make sense to someone who has never watched the sport.

Before an article is published, we check its facts against official league sources, record books and reporting from established news organizations. When a rule or a record changes, we update the article.

We do not publish rumors, and we do not publish betting tips.

Corrections

Sports are full of numbers, and numbers can be wrong. If you spot a mistake, please tell us. We will check it and fix it.

Independence

ViralBall is an independent publication. It is not affiliated with, sponsored by or endorsed by the NBA, the NFL, Major League Baseball, the NHL or any of their teams. Team and league names belong to their owners and are used here only to identify them.

How the site is paid for
