The Super Bowl is the championship game of the National Football League. There is no series and no second chance. Two teams play once, and the winner takes the title. To get there, each of them has to survive the NFL playoffs.

Sixty of them have been played since the first one in January 1967. Here is how the wins are spread across the league.

Teams with the same number of titles are listed with the most recent winner first. The record column shows wins and losses in the Super Bowl itself.

How to read the numbers

Super Bowls are counted in Roman numerals. LX is 60. The only exception was Super Bowl 50, which used ordinary numbers.

The game is played in the calendar year after the season it decides. The 2025 season ended with Super Bowl LX in February 2026. The years in the table are the years the games were played.

The two teams at the top

The Patriots won all six of their titles between 2002 and 2019, with Tom Brady at quarterback and Bill Belichick as coach. They have also played in the game 12 times, more than anyone else. Losing Super Bowl LX left their record at six wins and six losses.

The Steelers built their total in two bursts. They won four titles in six seasons in the 1970s, then added two more in 2006 and 2009.

Six wins is the record. Two teams share it, and it has stood since 2019.

The newest champions

Seattle won Super Bowl LX on February 8, 2026, in Santa Clara, California. The Seahawks' defense forced three turnovers and sacked New England's quarterback six times.

Running back Kenneth Walker III ran for 135 yards and was named the game's most valuable player. Kicker Jason Myers made five field goals, a Super Bowl record. It was Seattle's second title. The first came 12 years earlier.

Los Angeles Chargers0-1

The Bills have the hardest story on this list. They reached four Super Bowls in a row in the early 1990s and lost all four. The Vikings also went 0-4, between 1970 and 1977.

Records worth knowing

No team has ever won three Super Bowls in a row. The Chiefs came closest. They won in 2023 and 2024, then lost to the Eagles, 40-22, in 2025.

Only one team has finished a whole season without losing. The 1972 Miami Dolphins won every game, including Super Bowl VII.

The Jets have played in one Super Bowl, in 1969, and won it. It is still one of the biggest upsets in the history of the game. Their fans have had less to celebrate since, and one low point even has a name: the Butt Fumble.
